A collection of inspiring community moments lately.
You might be aware that I do not have a consistent social presence. I do have these ideas swimming in my head, and poor execution still beats no execution at all, so here’s a InspiredBy collection starting, just small snippets of moments I’ve watched and are inspiring my own work lately.
Algarve Community leaders gathering
People building spaces are normally by themselves and ironically lack a tribe feeling. Someone to ask questions to. This is why I love flourishmode and Fábrica de Olhão’s initiative to actually just create a space for an informal meet to happen.
Communities that were present:
- Albufeira Coworking
- Algarve Addicts
- Arco Preloved
- BIM Algarve
- Contextos
- Cowork Faro
- Fábrica de Olhão
- Faro em Ação
- Formosa Running Club
- GDG Faro
- Geek Sessions Faro
- Ledex AI
- Local Foundation
- Loft Community
- On Wednesdays We Storytell
- Pomar Coliving
- SheSapiens
- Start Algarve
- Tavira Works
- Walk and Talk Algarve
- WIN Portugal
We’re looking to keep the momentum going, discussing what we need help with and learn from each other. If you’d like to be involved, reach out!
Social impact
People care, no matter what others say. Between Algarve Up! Social and Academia Novos Líderes (both ANJE projects in the Algarve focused on civic impact and training a new generation of leaders), Farol Incubator and their Monday podcast exploring impact, Faro em Ação pushing for youth to get involved with their city, and Anraga Health that combines dance and science to improve older adults’ lives, everyone you can find associations, communities, incubators, and businesses actively creating impact and inspiring the next wave.
A founder’s journey
It seems cliché to say, but the tiniest of actions and intros can change people’s journey in a big way.
We’re all connected. What does Limaro, Closure. and Tail Trails have in common? All of them were part of a Startup Weekend, and all of them have this curiosity of what comes next, how far can you go?
PITCHNICs
As a self-proclaimed foodie (actions speak more than words here), and brainstormer of ideas, a pitchnic sounds like a great idea to enjoy the weather, the company and the snacks. Grow Algarve did the first one in Monchique, and next comes Malhão, with the promise of a magical sunset, and ideas buzzing next to the pool.
new bauhaus, books, leisure
I read (sometimes). I don’t run (yet) but I can walk. And I love seeing people promote art & culture. The world is waking up and making social and active culture mainstream again.Books for Brunch brings the girlies to Fnac, casual runs with the promise of a burger I could one day get behind, summer sunset walks in Quarteira with some lofties, Albauhaus in Faro showing a different side of the city.
Community map goes online
Biased, but I’m proud to say you can see a little of what we mapped in March for THE COMMUNITY MAP online. The work continues over on the ecosystem map where we’ve been adding new info every week. We’re focused more than ever to research community development and understand how to measure the great impact it has in our regions.
Aldeias do Futuro
I wasn’t prepared to be devastated and deeply inspired by an hour-long documentary by Re-Rural. It was a hard watch, because we’ve spent too long focused on our artificial cities, forgetting what community really means, helping your neighbour, believing in a region. And yet, we have so much potential to do better again.
SheSapiens
I’ve never been to a SheSapiens event where you don’t meet a lot of inspiring women. Community builders, entrepreneurs, artists, techies, these women are ready to create impact, share resources and learn together.
In the Algarve, they now have 3 chapters:
- Olhão — @maria.claudia.k
- Vilamoura — @yaremyaday
- Lagos — @izabellasoko
